A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Lawrence E Elkins High School's two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies. Except for Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Ridge Point High School earned one out of seven distinctions.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Lawrence E Elkins High School. They make up for 39.77% of student population, followed by African Americans (27.95%), Hispanics (15.56%), Whites or Caucasians (13.02%), Two or More Races (3.35%) and Native Americans (0.31%).
The student population at Ridge Point High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 30.87%, followed by Hispanics (26.90%), African Americans (23.00%), Asians (14.73%), Two or More Races (4.07%) and Native Americans (0.33%).
Based on household incomes, Lawrence E Elkins High School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 30.29% compared to 28.44% at Ridge Point High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Lawrence E Elkins High School has 122 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.76% of student population. Ridge Point High School has significantly more ELLs at 182 or about 5.97% of student population.
