Fulshear High School’s regular student population is 3,399 with a student-teacher ratio of 23.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Katy High School is 3,543 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15.4 students/teacher ratio.

Performance Indicators

Fulshear High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 94 in closing performance gaps. It scored 93 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Katy High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 86 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 92 in closing performance gaps and 89 overall in post-secondary readiness.

Distinction Designations

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Fulshear High School's two out of seven distinctions are in Social Studies and 25% closing performance gaps. Except for 25% closing performance gaps, Katy High School earned one out of seven distinctions.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Fulshear High School. They make up for 32.48% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (29.30%), African Americans (23.36%), Asians (9.94%), Two or More Races (4.44%) and Native Americans (0.29%).

The student population at Katy High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 41.15%, followed by Hispanics (36.33%), African Americans (12.02%), Asians (6.24%), Two or More Races (3.90%) and Native Americans (0.23%).

Based on household incomes, the Fulshear High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 28.04% compared to 36.83% at Katy High School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Fulshear High School has 422 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 12.42% of student population. Katy High School has slightly more ELLs at 436 or about 12.31% of student population.

In addition, Fulshear High School has 12.12% bilingual students, 5.68% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.36% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Katy High School with 11.94% bilingual students, 8.72% gifted and talented students and 14.54% students in the special education program.
