Mcmillen High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 79 in student achievement, 75 in school progress and 70 in closing performance gaps. It scored 76 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Plano East Sr High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 85 in student achievement, 85 in school progress, 76 in closing performance gaps and 82 overall in post-secondary readiness.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Mcmillen High School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies. Plano East Sr High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and with 25% student progress.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Mcmillen High School. They make up for 30.40% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (29.50%), Asians (21.78%), African Americans (13.17%), Two or More Races (4.85%) and Native Americans (0.20%).

The student population at Plano East Sr High School is also predominantly by Asians at 32.59%, followed by Hispanics (30.41%), Whites or Caucasians (21.44%), African Americans (10.82%), Two or More Races (4.35%) and Native Americans (0.26%).

Based on household incomes, Mcmillen High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 37.72% compared to 32.82% at Plano East Sr High School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Mcmillen High School has 212 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 20.99% of student population. Plano East Sr High School has significantly more ELLs at 514 or about 16.95% of student population.

In addition, Mcmillen High School has 20.30% bilingual students, 14.06% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.67% are in the special education program.
