Vines High School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 83 in student achievement, 76 in school progress and 74 in closing performance gaps. It scored 80 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Plano East Sr High School also earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 85 in student achievement, 85 in school progress, 76 in closing performance gaps and 82 overall in post-secondary readiness.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Vines High School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and Science. Plano East Sr High School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and with 25% student progress.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Vines High School. They make up for 44.30% of student population, followed by Hispanics (30.82%), African Americans (12.59%), Asians (7.63%), Two or More Races (4.26%) and Native Americans (0.40%).

The student population at Plano East Sr High School is also predominantly by Asians at 32.59%, followed by Hispanics (30.41%), Whites or Caucasians (21.44%), African Americans (10.82%), Two or More Races (4.35%) and Native Americans (0.26%).

Based on household incomes, the Vines High School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 32.71% compared to 32.82% at Plano East Sr High School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Vines High School has 169 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 16.75% of student population. Plano East Sr High School has significantly more ELLs at 514 or about 16.95% of student population.

In addition, Vines High School has 16.15% bilingual students, 18.73% are in the gifted and talented program, while 14.47% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Plano East Sr High School with 16.39% bilingual students, 23.55% gifted and talented students and 7.62% students in the special education program.

Vines High School's 61 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 10.3 years. Plano East Sr High School's 181 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13.9 years.

Of its teaching staff, Vines High School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has nine teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 15 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 16 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including eight beginning teachers. In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Vines High School employs 37 female teachers and 24 male teachers.
