Performance Indicators

Allen High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 89 in student achievement, 82 in school progress and 93 in closing performance gaps. It scored 90 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

On the other hand, Mcmillen High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 79 in student achievement, 75 in school progress, 70 in closing performance gaps and 76 overall in post-secondary readiness.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Allen High School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and Social Studies. Mcmillen High School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies.

Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Allen High School. They make up for 38.96% of student population, followed by Asians (25.84%), Hispanics (15.02%), African Americans (14.10%), Two or More Races (5.32%) and Native Americans (0.52%).

The student population at Mcmillen High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 30.40%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (29.50%), Asians (21.78%), African Americans (13.17%), Two or More Races (4.85%) and Native Americans (0.20%).

Based on household incomes, the Allen High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 15.14% compared to 37.72% at Mcmillen High School.

In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Allen High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 6.65% of its student population compared to 20.99% at Mcmillen High School.

Allen High School’s bilingual students comprise 6.43%, gifted and talented students, 15.21%, while 11.29% are in the special education program. Mcmillen High School bilingual students comprise 20.30%, gifted and talented students, 14.06%, and 12.67% are in the special education program.

Mcmillen High School's 68 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 10 years.
