Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Northwood Elementary School, which is a part of NORTH EAST ISD, with Thousand Oaks Elementary School, which is a part of NORTH EAST ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Northwood Elementary School has a regular student population of 370 with a 12.7 students/teacher ratio while Thousand Oaks Elementary School has 616 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.2 students/teacher ratio.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Northwood Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Thousand Oaks Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Northwood Elementary School. They make up for 43.78% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (37.57%), African Americans (12.70%), Two or More Races (3.78%), Asians (1.35%) and Native Americans (0.81%).
At Thousand Oaks Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 56.49% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (27.76%), African Americans (8.12%), Two or More Races (5.84%), Asians (1.46%) and Native Americans (0.16%).
Based on household incomes, the Northwood Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 58.92% compared to 62.18% at Thousand Oaks Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Northwood Elementary School has 7 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 1.89% of student population. Thousand Oaks Elementary School has more ELLs at 15 or about 2.44% of student population.
