Are you thinking about moving from Houston? The thought of moving to a remote island in the Pacific Ocean may seem like just a dream, but it’s not something that’s unheard of. Guam’s citizens consist of almost 20,000 immigrants, which is almost 12% of its total population, and those numbers have been on the rise for some time. With homes available to buy starting at only 169,000, an excellent educational system, and high-grade medical care, Guam has many opportunities for anyone considering moving there. The list below outlines a few more reasons why you should consider packing up your bags and moving to Guam.

  1. The climate is ideal

Almost everyone’s idea of a great place to live includes a climate that is warm and consistent, with the majority of days being bright and sunny. Guam is definitely a place that maintains a consistent temperature throughout the seasons, with an average temperature of 86 ?F, and the lowest temperature in the high 70s. Only rarely does the temperature ever drop below 70 ?F.

Guam is an island that is known for having 2 seasons: dry and rainy. The dry season lasts from December to June, and the rainy season is usually from July to November. But don’t let the rain keep you away! Downpours are very brief and tend to happen at night, so you’ll still be able to go about your daily activities without much interference from the rain.

  1. The culture and cuisine are very diverse

Guam’s culture is very unique and has thrived for over 4000 years, despite the fact that several other countries have tried to conquer it. The influence from these other countries has only added to the culture and cuisine found on the island, while the native Chamorro people have maintained their own cultural identity and customs. On Guam, you will find a large variety of cuisines, ranging from traditional Chamorro restaurants to American steakhouses, and everything in between.

Fiestas are a way of life on Guam and are held for pretty much any reason. Whether it be holidays, birthdays, or celebrating 1 of the 19 villages’ patron saints, the natives of Guam will gladly participate in and welcome anyone who wants to join the party.

  1. There is always something to do

Even though the island is small, there is always something going on or somewhere you can visit. During the dry season, you’ll probably be spending most of your time outdoors, but during the rainy season, or on days you feel like doing something different, there are plenty of indoor recreational activities that you can do!

Underwater World is a place where you can view the sea life, dive with the sharks, or enjoy a meal inches away from the glass walls of the aquarium. Or maybe shopping is more your style, in which case you can visit any one of the island’s indoor malls, premier outlets, or even K-Mart, which is still wildly popular in Guam! No matter what your interests are, you’ll never run out of things to do on this island.

  1. There are a wide variety of outdoor activities

It’s impossible to talk about Guam without mentioning the diving opportunities that can be found there. Located in the middle of the open ocean, diving enthusiasts know that this is an affordable place to dive with an abundance of sights to see. Perhaps most well known for its thriving coral reef and vast amounts of untouched shipwrecks, the shores of Guam are also home to many different types of marine animals as well.

Aside from the great diving opportunities, there are also some great beaches where you can swim, rivers you can go kayaking on, and trails you can go cycling on!

  1. It’s good for your health

Guam’s closest neighbour is Papua New Guinea, and is located over 1300 miles away. Being so isolated means that Guam tends to be a fairly healthy place to live. There is minimal pollution, fresh sea air, and relatively low incidents of disease. On top of that, their way of life is rather relaxed and happy, which lowers overall stress levels for the inhabitants of this island.

Another thing worth noting is their use of fresh, local, organic produce in much of their cooking, both at home and in local restaurants. Unless you’re eating at a fast food chain restaurant every night, you can be confident that you are eating healthy and nutritionally dense foods.

Guam is truly a place you can think of calling home, with its great food, great people, and ample opportunities to keep busy. It’s the kind of place where you wake up everyday to beautiful surroundings and warm temperatures, and never have to experience the feeling of your vacation almost being over.
