Voices of Veterans: "Their Stories. In Their Own Words."

During the course of real estate business yesterday, a conversation once again reminded me of a phenomenal program that is sponsored by the Texas Veterans Land Board.  Texas Veterans are now able to orally record their own personal stories and experiences which are being transcribed and archived in the Office of Veterans Records at the Texas General Land Office.  I stumbled upon this little gem one day when I was reading some updated content on the VLB website. (This discovery was made, ironically of course, after I had already started documenting my own father's service in the Vietnam War.)

So, here we are nearing the end of January of 2017 and I'm still busy talking about veterans.  Please don't expect an apology.  Their sacrifices for our freedoms can never be repaid.  I have ancestors dating back as far as history can trace that served in our armed forces, and how I would love to have had their recollections and viewpoints preserved.  It is simply amazing that this program has been created to give our veterans a voice!

I'm hopeful that my dad will also participate in this program soon and share more of his experiences to honor that piece of history in his life and the lives of those that surrounded him during that time.  One day my son John may have his own story to share with the world. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, graduated basic training, and has now moved on to advanced infantry training.  Just imagine how many more voices there are out there of our Texas Veterans that are waiting to be heard!
