The start of the college football season is here and I can’t wait to get going! For those that don’t know, I follow two teams religiously: LSU and the University of Houston.
This LSU team is stacked! Heisman-hopeful Leonard Fournette at RB, and a deep OL, defense, and one of the better receiving corps in the nation. Like all LSU teams, this one will depend on 3rd downs and whether QB Brandon Harris can get the ball to the playmakers around him.
The schedule has two SEC games in weeks two and three: we go to Mississippi State and then host Auburn. I’ll be heading to Tiger Stadium for the Auburn, Florida, and Texas A&M games later in the season. I predict an 11-1 regular season and a berth in the SEC title game.
These Houston Cougars are a little harder for me to figure. I believe our recruiting has been average over the last few years and think this will be the year we realize that. We are thin at WR, OL, DL, and I’m not sure QB Greg Ward will be ideal in Tom Herman’s system. The front half of the schedule is set up to help this team get off to a hot start similar to Briles’ first season in 2003. I’ll see the Coogs 8 times this year – all the home games and the Tulane roadie.
I predict a 7-5 record for the Coogs in the regular season but have a lot of optimism for the future. And give me TCU, Ohio State, Oregon, and LSU in the playoff.
