Harris County Down Payment Assistance Program (DAP)

The Downpayment Assistance Program (DAP) is available to qualified homebuyers. According to the Harris County Housing Resource Center (https://www.hrc.hctx.net) the amount of assistance is up to $14,000 for new construction, and up to $9,300 for resale properties built within the last 10 years. Here are the minimum DAP requirements: (1)Buyer must meet the following income requirements: # of family members =1, max annual income= $37,350 # of family members= 2, max annual income = $42,650 # of family members =3, max annual income = $48,000 #of family members = 4, max annual income = $53,300 #of family members = 5, max annual income = $57,600 #of family members =6, max annual income = $61,850 #of family members=7, max annual income= $66,100 #of family members= 8, max annual income= $70,400 (2)Home must be in Harris County. (3)Homebuyer must be a 1st time homebuyer, or not have owned a home for three years prior to applying for assistance, or have lost previous home in extenuating circumstances such as loss due to a fire, flood, or hurricane. (4)Buyer must be credit and program approved through one of Harris County's approved mortgage lenders. Visit website for more details: https://www.hrc.hctx.net/dap.htm (5)Buyer must have at least $350 or 1/2 lenders required down payment to invest in the purchase (6)Buyer must have at least one credit score of 620 (7)Buyer's debt to income ratio (DTI) can't exceed 42% (8)Buyer can't have more than $10,000 in liquid assets (9)Everyone in the household must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident alien (10)To begin the DAP process, all applicants must attend a homebuyer certificate program from a HUD approved homebuyer education course provider and select a Harris County approved mortgage lender.
