Weigh anchor: A “special announcement” planned this week by Disney Cruise Line about 2012 itineraries is sure to include Galveston news industry insiders said.
Disney Cruise Line issued a special advisory Monday about a luncheon and presentation for invited guests at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Houston’s Hotel ICON.
Details are scarce, but Dynamic Travel & Cruises of Southlake and other travel agents posted on Facebook and elsewhere Monday that Disney Magic will sail Sept. 22, 2012, on the first of 12 seven-night cruises from the Port of Galveston to the Western Caribbean. That’s big. Disney ships lure cruisers from hundreds of miles away.
Port of Galveston officials were mum Monday about the possibility of a Disney ship sailing from the island, which is homeport to Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International vessels.
Both cruise lines have announced they would bring larger ships to the island this and next year.
Also, Princess Cruises last month announced its Crown Princess would offer Caribbean trips from the island port between Dec. 22 and April 27, 2013.
