Popular Ways to Add Smart Technology to Your Home

Will adding smart technology around your home be your next home improvement project? A smart home is a residence that uses internet-connected devices to enable the remote monitoring and management of appliances and systems, such as lighting and heating. Smart technology seems to be all around us—in our phones, at work, at home, and in our cars. Many rely on these modern elements to bring them peace of mind, security, and convenience. Let’s take a walk around a home utilizing smart technology and identify where we can see smart technology at work.

Video Doorbells

Smart doorbell cameras are commonly used by numerous homes and businesses across the country. These doorbells allow for 2-way talk, video recording, motion detection, and more. Getting a notification of a package delivery allows the homeowner to collect boxes and envelopes before rain starts. Law enforcement has been able to use video from these types of doorbells to get leads and solve crimes.

Smart Thermostats

Living in a comfort climate-controlled home has never been easier. Set the temperature ranges and then forget it. These Wi-Fi enabled devices will automatically adjust the heating and cooling temperatures throughout the day and night. The devices can also be linked to a home monitoring company so if their an issue someone will be alerted and a call to an HVAC service will be placed.

Garage Door Openers & Door Locks

It’s so convenient to open the garage door from your vehicle or have a sensor tell the garage door you’re approaching the drive and the door goes up upon your arrival. It’s handy to not have to juggle keys, packages, and opening doors without dropping everything you’re carrying inside the house. Smart garage door openers also have the ability to enable secure in-garage delivery for Amazon Prime packages and other delivery providers. These types of door openers can come with cameras for another layer of security.

Lighting

Smart lighting contains a tiny chip inside to communicate with wireless devices. This type of technology allows users to change the brightness, control on/off settings plus use a timer, change lighting colors, and automate your lights in a wide variety of ways. Need to be away and prefer to come home to a few lights on? No problem, when you program the lights to come on at a specific time.

Smart Speakers & Media

Media lovers appreciate the ability offered by using smart speakers. Asking Alexa to turn on your favorite music, read an audiobook to you, or find the answer to a trivia question are a few things Alexa can do. Connecting wireless speakers to your television allows your room have surround-sound and watching a show have a movie theater experience. Smart TVs use voice activation to change the channel, connect to on-demand apps and music, and automatically shut-off in case you’ve fallen asleep at the end of the day with the tv on.

Pet Care & Lawn Care

You’re never forget to feed your pets or water the lawn when you use apps to control these essential things. Smart feeders can be programmed to dispense pet food at specific times as well as in amounts programmed for each pet’s diet. Even houseplants can be connected to watering systems so those beautiful blooms will look their best all season long.

Kitchen Appliances

Leading brands now offer smart technology linked to their appliances. Having your smart coffee maker start the morning brew is one plus to kicking off your day in the right way. Smart refrigerators are capable of tracking of expiration dates, make shopping lists, and suggesting e recipes based on ingredients you currently have on hand. When you take a closer look, you’ll find smart technology is available on washing machines, dryers, toaster, dishwashers, ovens and stovetops, and so much more.

Security Cameras

Home security systems have been around for some time. Adding in the smart tech elements elevates the levels of security and peace of mind to any plan.
