Homestead Property Tax Exemptions

A homestead exemption helps you save on property taxes on your primary home. You have to apply for this benefit and the deadline is April 30th.

In addition to lowering your property tax obligation, homestead exemption also helps protect your primary resident from creditors. Another important benefit especially during appreciating housing market is that it puts a limit on property appraisal value increase.  

What you need to apply:

-          A copy of your valid Texas Driver’s License or personal ID showing the homestead address

-          Apply during the application period Jan 1st – April 30th

-          Complete the application form
