Redfin's latest ranking of the top 10 walkable cities in the Lone Star State highlights four neighboring locations along with Galveston as having the highest walkability scores.

Redfin calculates a "walk score" ranging from 0 to 100, aiding individuals in finding areas conducive to pedestrian navigation by analyzing various factors like proximity to amenities, population density, block length, and intersection density.

Though these Texas cities rank high within the state, their scores pale in comparison to cities like New York and San Francisco, which boast scores in the high 80s.

Among the top-ranking Texas cities is South Houston, securing the second position with a walkability score of 58. Notably, Allen-Genoa Road emerges as a pedestrian-friendly zone within this area, serving its 16,462 residents who can conveniently run errands on foot. Median housing prices start at $195,000, with rental rates averaging $1,415.

Galveston claims third place with a score of 54, with its walkable areas including the Strand and Seawall Boulevard, offering historic sites, diverse dining options, and retail outlets. Median home prices begin at $414,500, while rent starts at $1,733.

Bellaire, Texas, secures the fourth spot with a walkability score of 52, boasting a range of nearby amenities like parks and town squares. Median home prices in Bellaire start at $857,475, with rent averaging $2,917.

Houston itself follows closely behind in fourth place with a score of 47, recognized as the largest and sixth most walkable city in Texas by Redfin. Cinco Ranch, a suburb of Houston, claims the ninth spot, featuring numerous walkable areas with restaurants and shops.
