This or That

How often do you find yourself paralyzed due to the inability to make a decision? Decision making can be hard for some and a breeze for others. I've always been quick and confident decision maker. Now, don't get me wrong, I have made plenty of "wrong" decisions that have taught me valuable lessons. I'm less comfortable being stuck than going for it and seeing what happens. I remember trying to find new places before we could map any destination on our phones.

Once, when trying to find a restaurant with a group of people in the car, we sat at a stop sign for what seemed to be forever. Everyone was guessing if we should turn right or left and voiced their opinions. None of them sounded confident, which left us going nowhere. I decided to chime in and say, "turn right." I said it in a tone that sounded like I knew where the heck we were going. I didn't have a clue but there was only one way to find out. If turning right didn't work out, then we would know with 100% certainty that the restaurant was indeed to the left of the stop sign.

Chances are that you are making more decisions in a confident manner than you give yourself credit for. Things like:

Snooze or wake up?
Shower or bathe?
Cereal or toast?
Salad or sandwich?
Tea or coffee?
Water or soda?

As we navigate this sea of choices, it's important to acknowledge that decision-making is a learned skill. We can cultivate it, refine it, and even unlearn habits that might hinder us. Strategies like breaking down complex decisions into smaller, manageable parts, seeking advice, or even taking a step back to gain perspective can all be immensely helpful. Or, my method of simply trying one thing to see how that shakes out can be used as practice. I highly recommend doing so in situations like stop signs and not practicing on choosing something that requires significantly more undoing than simply turning around!

I recently decided to put up my holiday decor before Thanksgiving for the first time. I still can't decide if I made the right decision!
LOL.
