I was born in Raymondville, Texas and grew up in Houston's Spring Branch neighborhood. For many years I worked in my father's automotive business, during the days of full-service gas stations. I spent the next part of my life working in municipal fire service, and after a long career retired as an Assistant Fire Chief. I have a bachelor's degree and strongly believe in lifelong learning.
