June 23-July 5: Get the kids to The Backyard Grill for summer fun

Backyard Grill has fun events on tap for children this summer, including face painting June 28 along with kids bingo June 21 and July 5.

June 23-July 7: Take part in parents night out at iCode School

On Fridays, the iCode School hosts a kids game night while giving their parents a break. The kids can play games such as Minecraft, Roblox and Fortnite.

June 23-25: Identify local species in The Woodlands

As part of national pollinator week, residents are invited to participate in BioBlitz, a weeklong event when participants can upload photos of local flora and fauna to a database to help identify local species in the area. The event will culminate in a celebration June 24 displaying local finds and discussing the local ecosystem.

June 23: Go to Rainbow on the Green

Located at Discovery Green’s Anheuser-Busch Stage, Rainbow on the Green is back for the 13th year. This Pride-packed event will feature live music from JORD, an LA-based pop singer-songwriter, and Houston-based vocalist Z’maji.

June 24-25: Bridgeland Discovery Home Tour

Bridgeland will host a Discovery Home Tour. Interested homebuyers are invited to explore model homes in Parkland Village, Prairieland Village, Creekland Village and Bridgeland Central. Participating homebuilders will offer incentives towards the purchase of a new home during the home tour.

June 24: Relive the 2000s era of hip-hop and R&B

An all-star set of artists from the 2000s era of music is heading to Sugar Land. The concert features a lineup of Ja Rule, Ashanti, Fabolous, Ma$e, Lloyd and Foxy Brown, to name a few.

June 24: Celebrate Pride with family

This family-friendly event, hosted by Houston City Council Member Abbie Kamin, returns to Levy Park for its second year. The event will have Pride story time, games and activities from the Houston Public Library, face painting, and interactive educational activities. At the Colors of Pride Ribbon Wall, children can write notes about what Pride means to them. According to a May 19 news release, residents are also encouraged to dress up their pets and bring them for Houston’s Second Annual Proud Puppy Parade, which will take place at 9 a.m. at the Levy Park Dog Park.

June 24: Hang out with moms

Northwood Church will host a free community event called Momma-Palooza for moms needing a break. Those interested in attending can expect shopping, free swag, food trucks and activities for kids. Dads are also allowed to attend.

June 24: Participate in a food fair

Katy Christian Ministries will combat food insecurity with a community food fair. The nonprofit organization has goals to distribute hundreds of pounds of free food and fresh produce to Katy-area residents, and all community members are encouraged to attend.

June 24: Dance with the family

Join the Brainy Bunch Learning Center for Family Prom Night, at which attendees will enjoy a three-course meal, a photo booth and a dance party.

June: 24 Meet local authors

The Tomball Community Library will host over 20 local authors for a meet and greet as well as a book signing. The genres of authors will include children’s, middle grade, teen and adult with a few children’s and adult nonfiction authors. Attendees will be able to meet the authors and ask them questions. A portion of funds from all the books sold at this event will go to the Tomball Friends of the Library nonprofit.

June 24: Explore African culture

The 10th annual Wazobia Family Fun Fair comes to Sugar Land with games, cash prizes, live performances and African food.

June 24: Watch the Houston Pride Parade

The 45th annual Houston Pride Parade, hosted by Pride Houston 365, will start in front of Houston City Hall. The parade processions will start on Smith Street at Lamar Street and end on Milam Street at Pease Street.

June 24: Attend a block party

Cy-Hope, a Cypress-based nonprofit benefiting underserved children, teachers and school districts, is hosting a Katy Block Party at the Katy location of its resale clothing store. Special guests include Alchemy Bake Lab, Scholars and Scoundrels, Brookshire Brothers, Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, Barkley Books, the Cy-Hope STEM bus, and Crew Lemonade Stand. This event is kid centered.

June 25: Eat at Pride Recovery Brunch

Join The Montrose Center at the new The Heights Social with emcee Derrick Shore, music by DJ Chad Guidry, and drag performances by Lucy Paradisco and Ondi. Drag performances will be on the hour. The Montrose Center serves the Houston community by empowering LGBTQ individuals and their families to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

June 25: Take a gravel bike ride

Cool Cat Cycles is hosting a gravel bike ride for anyone who is new to the area, just got a gravel bike or wants to learn to ride gravel. Seasoned riders who are looking for more recreational or endurance miles can also attend. The bike ride is 20 miles at a speed of 12-14 mph. Riders are recommended to bring a bike with wide and cushy tires, such as a hardtail mountain bike or hybrid.

June 25: Delve into Eid couture

S&I Organizers will hold an Eid al-Fitr exhibition at the Hilton Garden Inn Sugar Land. Eid is an Islamic festival celebrating the end of Ramadan fasting. Attendees can expect a variety of vendors selling traditional South Asian clothes, jewelry and shoes.
