A new 14-acre superstore wants to reinvent how you purchase home-related products.

Home improvement junkies in and around Houston, it’s time to rejoice. MainStreet America, the first theme park dedicated to home building products and services, is opening in your area next month.

You won’t be able to buy nails and duct tape at this place, but if you’re looking for the latest bath fixtures, you’re in luck. The 14-acre space that includes a 45,000-sq.-ft. Guest Center will feature 12 model houses all operating as retail showrooms.

Dubbed The MainStreet American Home Collection, these spaces will allow visitors to see appliances and furnishings in a real working environment.

Each faux residence will have its own unique architectural appearance and range in size from 1,800 to 6,000 square feet. Building styles include: The Midtown, a contemporary townhouse; The Cape Pointe, a coastal beach abode; and The Alexandria, a Greek revival structure.

FYI, you won’t have to deal with pesky salespeople while perusing each home showroom. Consumers will be equipped with the theme park’s proprietary handheld scanning device, nicknamed TED. When a product’s bar code is scanned, the tablet-like gadget will provide item information, plus allow users to place things in a virtual shopping cart.

The park will feature products from a wide range of manufacturers, including Bosch, Dow, GE, Kohler, and Moen.

MainStreet America will also offer home improvement workshops, opportunities to meet local contractors and interior designers, plus family entertainment. If this idea succeeds, Walt Disney and Lowe’s might want to consider merging.
