Congrats on the decision to purchase a home! Your should make sure and choose a REALTOR with experience with First Time Home Buyers. You want someone that can explain the entire process from beginning to look at properties to obtaining preapproval from a lender to selecting a property to contract to close!
I have a couple of things that I send to my first time home buyer clients, detailing the process from start to finish so there are no surprises, referrals for mortgage lenders (as well as lender "dos" and "don'ts" from a lender), insurance agents, inspectors, etc. that I have personally worked with. Feel free to shoot me an email for more information as HAR won't let me write it all out or attach anything to this post.
That is quite a general question. Simply put, know exactly what house you want and be fast about it when it comes to market. I have clients who made offers before the house was put on the market but has a For Sale sign.
Congratulations on making the move to buy your first home. There are MANY things you need to know and ask your Realtor. Too many to address here. Ideally, you have a Realtor already and they work with many first time Buyers. Of course an experienced Realtor will guide you the process including getting your financing set up, providing information on the neighborhood your looking to purchase in, other topics like schools, crime, flooding and so much more. If you do not have a Realtor working for you, interview 2 or 3 and see which one feels right for you. Always ask how they get paid for their services and if you need to sign a Buyers Representation Agreement. Let us know if we can help. Mark McNitt, Bernstein Realty. 832-567-4357
