Myth #1: Buyers only look at 3 homes before deciding to purchase one of them Hah! If only that were the truth. According to the National Association of Realtors, the average homebuyer tours 10 homes before making a decision.
Myth #2: The houses the buyers are touring are actually for sale Nope. Truth is, everything is staged for TV. Many of the homes shown are already sold and off the market. Wow!
Myth #3: The buyers haven’t made a purchase decision yet If you have ever bought a house, you know there is no way to show the entire buying process in a 30-minute show. Spoiler Alert! TV producers often choose buyers who are further along in the process and have already chosen a home to buy.
Myth #4: If you list your home for sale, it will ALWAYS sell at the open house Hah. I wish! Open houses rarely find the buyer you are looking. It does, however, give you the biggest bang for your buck in terms of exposure to buyers in your area. The selling agent typically hands an open house over to another agent looking for clients. Finding the specific buyer is like finding a needle in a haystack. But it does happen. Most homes, however, are sold once the buyer has studied the information online and seen the property personally.
Myth #5: Homeowners decide to sell their homes after a 5-minute conversation to talk about it Again, if it were this easy, we’d all be real estate agents, right? But as you know, there is a lot to consider when buying or selling a home.
