Lender Credit Scores vs. Consumer Requested Credit Scores
"The lender said my middle scores is 580, but I just pulled it myself using a consumer credit score site and my score was 620 on there...how can this be true?"
Several prospective home buyers call me with this issue. Yes, it is true..your consumer requested credit score and the score the lender uses can be very different. The score you request as a consumer is a generic version of your FICO score, made up from all categories on your credit history (installment credit, store based credit, banking loans, credit cards, etc.). However, lenders are able to see a variety of FICO scores (that a consumer does not have access to) and choose the FICO score most directly related to the type of credit which the consumer is currently applying for. Despite the difference, in most cases, if you have a good generic score then your FICO scores in all the different scoring categories will be good. So the key is to pay what you borrow (timely) and ALL of your FICO scores will reflect your good credit history.
