Tips for Protecting Your Home Valuables

As you get closer and closer to listing your home and having your agent begin showings, you may be wondering how to protect your home valuables when strangers begin visiting. This is a wise consideration and something to discuss with your listing agent. Follow these tips for several ways to keep your valuables safe.

Utilize a Home Safe

One of the easiest ways to protect your keepsakes and valuables is to place them inside a home safe. There are a variety of models and sizes available. Home safes can be free-standing or mounted inside a wall or floor, depending on your needs and the size required.

Relocate 

One of most frequently used approaches to securing your valuables before showings is to remove these items from the home. You may choose to move these items to your new home or have a friend or family member store them at their location.

Insured Valuables

It’s wise to have your valuables insured. This gives you an added layer of protection and peace of mind in the event of theft, fire, or a natural disaster. 

Hide Documents

Sensitive documents and files are best secured in a locked file cabinet or locked desk drawer compared to laying in the open in your home office. 

As you may have noticed in these tips, a lot of these things are common sense. Keep your valuables and sensitive documents out of sight, out of reach, and in a secure location.
