Fronting Galveston Bay, The Strand is a National Historic Landmark harkening back to Galveston's heyday in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many of the buildings are more than a century old and stunning in their detail and craftsmanship. The Strand serves as the commercial center of downtown Galveston where you’ll find numerous places to shop, dine, and be entertained. The Strand is also the center of Galveston Mardi Gras festivities, the annual holiday celebration Dickens on the Strand, and other seasonal festivals and activities.

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places at the national level of significance in the area of architecture, Bishop's Palace (a.k.a. Gresham House) is one of the most significant of Victorian residences in the country. Guests will see Medieval and Renaissance details on the four towers, each respective tower rises four stories in height. The granite and sandstone used to construct this home was custom-cut on site from Texas stones. Self-guided tours are available daily.

Bayou Bend is the former home of Houston philanthropist Ima Hogg and contains assemblages of American decorative arts dating from 1620 through 1876. The home museum features 28 rooms, displayed in period settings that are a feast for the eyes. The beautiful gardens are inclusive of the surrounding woodlands as well as a less formal garden environment on the south side of the property.
