The Houston region has a rich sporting culture to carry die-hard sports fans through each season. Fans enthusiastically follow collegiate, minor league and semi-pro plus major league and professional teams.

One of the most memorable things about attending sporting events in this region are the fans. The atmosphere of the crowd is best described as pure energy. Many fans arrive early to set up tents and grills in the lots where they can cook and socialize. Tailgating before the game is a big deal.

During the game you’ll hear plenty of cheers and chants to rally on the Home team athletes. While watching the games there are numerous diverse and delicious food options to keep hungry fans satisfied. You’ll find traditional stadium foods as well as barbeque and Tex-Mex available. Quite a few of the sport venues also host entertainment such as live music, games, and other activities before and during the games—all of this for the fans’ enjoyment.  

It's All About the Teams

Houstonians are known for their team loyalty. Our local teams have a strong and devoted fan base which makes attending a game even more fun.  

We’re home to seven major leagues teams:  

1. Houston Rockets (NBA) – basketball played at Toyota Center
2. Houston Astros (MLB) – baseball played at Minute Maid Park
3. Scrap Yard Dawgs (NPF) – softball played at Scrap Yard Sports Complex
4. Houston Dash (NWSL) – soccer played at BBVA Compass Stadium
5. Houston Dynamo (MLS) – soccer played at BBVA Compass Stadium
6. Houston SaberCats (MLR) – rugby played at Constellations Field
7. Houston Texans (NFL) – football played at NRG Stadium

And 35 minor league and semi-pro sports:

The basketball teams include: Houston Xperience (ABA), Houston Warriors (UBA), Houston Spirit (UBL), Houston Inferno (BBA), Houston Sparks (WBCBL), Houston Horned Frogs (CBDL), Sugar Land Legends (ABA), Bayou Warriors (UBA), and Texas Wolverines (NABL).

The baseball teams include: Sugar Land Skeeters (ALPB) and The Woodlands Strykers (TCL).

The soccer teams include: Houston Aces (UWS), Houston Dutch Lions (NPSL), Houston Hurricanes FC (TPSL), Houston South Select (WSPL), Regals SCA (NPSL), Houston Hotshots (PASL), and Houston FC (PDL).

The football teams include: Houston Energy (IWFL), Houston Power (WFA), Houston Ducks (DTFA), Texas Colts (TBD), Houston Lonestars (USAFL), Houston Vanity (WAFL), Houston Lady Oilers (WAFL), Lady Houston Panthers (LAFL), Texas Lady Jaguars (SSFL), and The Woodlands Wildcats (USWFL).
