I LIKE THIS PLACE A LOT!
I have been 2 times and my 3rd time will be to try these TX Whiskey Pecan Pie Pancakes!!
My first introduction to the BLACK WALNUT CAFE was by way of a business lunch at the Vintage Park location, 10623 Louetta Road Houston, Texas 77070 (281) 251-6900.
When you walk in, you are handed a menu (especially if it is your first time) as you stand in line so that when you get to the counter, you are ready to order and pay for your food, then go find a place to sit. I was a little surprised at the process albeit it is not quite fast food to me so I was thinking I would be able to sit at a table, view the menu with some time, then place my order. Hum...COVID changes perhaps. Not sure, but okay, I went with the flow and decided to play it safe and order a salad.
I ordered theBlackened Salmon Blueberry Spinach Salad. Great choice. Huge Salad. So huge I could not finish it all. A 6 oz. piece of tasty, blackened Salmon, a ton of fresh spinach, highlighted with heart of palm, candied walnuts and goat cheese (yum - I love goat cheese), all lightly dressed with a house-made blueberry dressing. The salad was so good I didn't need the garlic bread served with it. I would definitely order it again and again. We also shared the Chicken Pot Stickers - another great choice!!
My second visit at the same location was a little more casual and later in the day. I was ready this time with my order in mind. They were busy too. People were out and about. The patio area was full, the bar area was full, and the air smelled of all sorts of aromas. People were laughing and having a great time. Plates and drinks were passing us by as we stood in line waiting to order with our heads seeming to be at a tennis match turning back and forth, commenting on the food we saw. Burgers. Eggs Benedits. Chicken Fried Steak. Mimosas. Everything looked so good. Finally, we get to the counter and order. A round of Mimosas, a Shrimp Ceasar Salad and ...wait for it...wait for it...the Blackened Mahi Mahi. The Mimosas were okay. My friend ordered the salad and said it was good! I believe it. But Oh, My Goodness!!!!
The Blackened Mahi Mahi that I ordered is still dancing in my head. That was my first time believe it or not having Mahi Mahi - yes, I said it out loud. First time, EVER and this entree at this restaurant did not let me down. Click on the link above and check out the menu. There is a picture of it on the home screen, just scroll through the pictures. Anyway, the Blackened Mahi Mahi sits atop a mound of black rice, garlic and wilted greens which are all nicely nestled in an Old Bay Pavia sauce with sun-dried tomatoes dancing around the shallow bowl. If I had been in a corner somewhere by myself, I might have tried to run my finger along with bowl when I finished. I ate E V E R Y T H I N G on my plate. It was soo good that I had to write about it and share with you. I hope from reading this you get the gist of what I did.
If you go or have been, please come back and share your experience with others. Maybe I will see you there one day! Connect with me on FB and Instagram and share your experiences there too @rhondabiggomproperties.
