A beautiful yard may be the best advertisement you have when it comes to selling your home. Potential buyers won’t just see a well-manicured yard; they’ll see a well-maintained house. This St. Patrick’s Day, “go green” by making sure your home’s landscaping is adequately prepared for the sales process by following these tips:

  1. Take care of the grass. Mow the yard. Water it regularly (especially here in Houston), fertilize, and patch or reseed any dead spots.
  2. Clean up the beds. Prune dead branches from shrubbery. Pull weeds. Remove or replace dying plants. Also, remove any landscape plants (like bulbs, shrubs or plants that have sentimental value) that you plan to take with you move.
  3. Plant pops of color. Head to your local nursery to pick up a few trays of bright, seasonal flowers to make your perennial landscaping really stand out.
  4. Spread fresh mulch. A new layer of mulch is a fairly inexpensive and simple way to highlight the surrounding plants.
  5. Add outdoor potted plants. Potted plants, particularly bright flowers and over-sized tropicals, add drama and a beautiful decorator touch.

Remember, a messy, uncared for yard may give buyers the impression that the house has been equally neglected. Go green this month and let your yard be a built-in marketing tool!
