Building and renovating your home is an important decision that takes time and consideration to do exactly right! Professional builders value communication and understanding the personal needs of their clients. This also means that you should take time to reflect on yourself and what you need in your home. It may be that before your focus was on your home as a place for others. You may have cultivated a welcoming and comfortable space. Which is important to your relationships and the memories shared in your home. Have you considered that your sacred space within the home is just as important?

In a pandemic, our living space becomes our retreat. I would argue that this intentional space for self was equally important before and will be after. Our space reflects our inner life and our inner needs for care and attention.

Self care is becoming a frequently discussed and recommended solution to address the daily stresses many of us experience in everyday life. Where before this may have meant attending a yoga class, going for a spa day, or spending time with friends and family; this pandemic has forced us to rethink our self care choices. Selfcare is now one of the many things we do in our home. Our home, for many has become the workplace and the space to destress and unwind. Creating spaces within our home of inspiration and wellness is more important than ever before. You might call these spaces sacred or places to recharge.

How can one find spaces of inspiration in a home?

Perhaps for you it is a mediation garden, a yoga/prayer room, an exercise room, a craft, or creation room to list a few examples. The connection between activities is the quality of the space itself. A breathable space that allows you to relax, reflect and experience tranquility. Picture openness. No boundaries. A space to feel free within your own home. ‘Home is where the heart is’ as in your heart space. A space for your authentic self, happiness; a place that brings you wellness and peace.

Steps to Creating a Space to Recharge in Your Home

1. Choose a space in the home that can be for you.

2. Find some items that have personal meaning to you and set a tone for your space.

3. Create a routine or ritual for how you come to your space. What do you leave behind when you enter? What do you gain?

These special spaces are sanctuaries in your home for you to pause, practise self care and reflect. By calming the mind, you are healing your body and mind.

Make your space and your home a place where you can feel light and free. A place that is breathable against the worries that arise in our current times. Your home can be your sanctuary.
