Aging Out - a Seniors view of Home Ownership and Letting Go

The old adage that getting old is not for sissies is so true. Perhaps you are reaching an age where you are thinking about your Golden Years and what you are going to do moving forward. Or, maybe, you have aging parents and considering options. Either way there is a lot to consider.

In our younger years we are busy building a family and providing that much needed housing to corral them all in. Memories are made, children grow and Life inevitably changes. All of the things that brought so much comfort are moving in different directions. Children now have their own families - kids of their own and possibly grandchildren. People are moving in so many directions and you find yourself trying to figure out your own path forward. And this house....what am I doing with it and all of the up keep that is piling up?

Depending on health and finances it could be limited as to what options you may or may not have. 

Some may want to pack up and travel, some may need to look at assisted living or find it necessary to move in with one of the children and others may just be looking to downsize into something more manageable. Whatever the decision is, it has lots of moving parts. All of them require thought and preparation. 

First things first - where are you going? If it is into a child's home or assisted living you will be doing a great amount of purging and picking out those treasures that you just cannot let go of. Traveling or downsizing? Same thing. Now you have made a choice of what you are taking with you but there is still a ton left. Do the kids or grandkids want anything? Wonderful! Now what? Still a lot left and it is So time consuming and energy sapping - physically, emotionally and mentally.

Secondly - what on earth will I do with all of this...Stuff? This house? How am I going to pack what I want to take and deal with a move?
