Pearland Schools Explained

A Real, Data-Driven Guide for Families Moving to Pearland

If you're thinking about moving to Pearland, let's be honest, you're not just asking about homes. You're asking about schools.

You're asking:
Will my child be supported here?
Will they be challenged?
Will they have options when it's time to graduate?

And I want you to hear this from someone who is raising kids here, showing homes here, and having real conversations with families every single week. Pearland is not a one-size-fits-all school district and that is actually one of its biggest strengths.

Understanding How Pearland ISD Is Structured

Before we even get into rankings and programs, you need to understand how Pearland ISD is set up because it's a little different than what some families are used to.

Pearland ISD serves over 20,000 students across 23 campuses, and the grade levels are broken up like this:

  • Elementary Schools (PreK4th): 11
  • Middle Schools (5th6th): 4
  • Junior High Schools (7th8th): 4
  • High School-Level Campuses: 4

That middle school layer (5th and 6th) is something I always explain to families because it helps ease that transition before junior high.

And when we talk about high schools in Pearland
We are not just talking about two campuses.

We are talking about four very different pathways.

Pearland ISD at a Glance (State Rankings)

For families who like to see the numbers:

  • Ranked #27 out of 876 school districts in Texas
  • Ranked #4 in the Houston area
  • Strong marks for diversity and college preparation

Now rankings are helpful but they are not everything.

What matters more is how your child fits into what each campus offers.

Let's Talk High Schools (This Is Where It Matters Most)

Glenda Dawson High School

Dawson is one of the highest-performing campuses in the district.

Statewide Rankings:

  • #63 Best Public High School in Texas
  • #40 College Prep High Schools in Texas
  • #1 in Brazoria County

Academic Highlights:

  • Advanced Placement (AP) courses
  • AP Capstone program (college-level research and writing)
  • Dual credit opportunities

TEA Accountability:

  • Overall Score: 95 (A Rating)

This is a strong fit for students who are academically driven and thrive in a structured, high-achieving environment.

Pearland High School

Pearland High is the district's original flagship campus and still a solid, well-rounded option.

Statewide Rankings:

  • #290 Best Public High Schools in Texas
  • #216 College Prep
  • #62 for Athletics

Academic Highlights:

  • AP and Pre-AP courses
  • AP Capstone
  • Dual enrollment with Alvin Community College
  • Strong extracurriculars and athletics

TEA Accountability:

  • Overall Score: 91 (A Rating)

If you want a traditional high school experience with strong academics, sports, and student life, this is a great option.

Robert Turner College & Career High School

Now this one right here, families either overlook it or fall in love with it. Turner is not a traditional high school. It is built for career readiness and real-world pathways.

Statewide Rankings:

  • #269 Best Public High Schools in Texas
  • #166 College Prep
  • Top 3 in Brazoria County

TEA Accountability:

  • Overall Score: 97 (A Rating)

What makes Turner different:

  • Career & Technical Education pathways
  • Industry certifications (healthcare, tech, trades, business)
  • Dual credit programs
  • Smaller AP offering (by design)

Some of the pathways include:

  • Health Science
  • Engineering
  • IT & Computer Science
  • Culinary Arts
  • Cosmetology
  • Agriculture & Welding

This is for the student who is already saying I want to graduate with a skill, a certification, or a head start" and I love that for them.

PACE Center (Alternative Programs)

PACE is not your traditional high school campus, and I always take time to explain this clearly. PACE houses specialized programs, including ACE.

ACE (Accelerated/Alternative Education):

  • Smaller class sizes
  • Academic recovery support
  • Flexible structure
  • Strong teacher support

ALA (Alternative Learning Academy):

  • Structured disciplinary program
  • Focus on behavior, accountability, and academic progress

This campus exists to support students who need a different environment to succeed and for the right student it can completely change their trajectory.

So, Which Pearland High School Is Best?

I'm going to tell you the same thing I tell my clients, the best school is not the one with the highest ranking, it is the one that fits your child.

  • If your child is academically competitive Dawson
  • If they want a traditional, well-rounded experience Pearland High
  • If they are career-focused or hands-on Turner
  • If they need a smaller or alternative setting PACE

Pearland gives you options and that is what makes it special.

Final Thoughts From a Pearland Mom + Realtor

As a mom raising kids here and a realtor helping families plant roots here, I don't take this conversation lightly because choosing a home is one thing, choosing the right environment for your child is everything and what I love about Pearland is this, you don't have to force your child into one path. There is space here for them to grow into who they are becoming.
