Texas weather can change fast! - Jen Glenn

Texas weather can change fast!

The last week has proven just how fast the weather can change in Houston. Here are some helpful tips on keeping yourself prepared..
Whether its rain or snow, the weather in Houston can take its toll and leaven a trail of destruction in its wake. Being prepared is your first line of defense so lets get to it. Do NOT wait till the last minute! Give your insurance agent a call way in advance and be sure your policies are in good standing and ask what they cover. The environment of the roadways here tends to escalate quickly and the idea of "running to the store real quick" is not realistic. Supplies will be scarce by the time the weather arrives so stock up at least a few days beforehand! Be sure to keep a storm prep kit available with plenty of flashlights and fresh batteries, also have a plan in place with your family just in case the power goes out. According to what kind of water system you are on speak to your local authorities on if you should keep the faucets dripping in your home for plunging temps, also open your cabinets to allow the warmth of your home to reach your pipes.  Try to keep your refrigerator doors closed to retain cold temps during an outage and keep on hand a portable charger or two. Make sure you sign up for local news alerts in your area! It is a good idea to consider an alternate power source, but always exercise caution and safety when operating a generator. If you have furry family members have an evacuation plan for them as well. Remember this a stressful time for all involved and that your family's safety comes first!
