Now, I will be the first to admit that I do NOT have a green thumb, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Real plants in a home are always the best choice - unless the real plants are half dead or all dead. There is nothing worse that a brown or mostly brown plant setting in a room. A room should feel uplifting, not depressing which is the feeling you get with a dead plant in the room.
This does not mean that I am advocating the use of "fake" plants in your home. However, I see many homes filled with fake plants. If you insist on using dried/plastic/silk plants in your home, please limit them. Do not load the tops of your cabinets with ivy or any other plant. Perhaps an accent here or there would be acceptable, but please use them only as an accent and use them sparingly.
