Tony Duquette says that "More is More." This can be very true when you are decorating a home to live in. However, when you are staging a home, I must defer to Plato.
Less is definitely more appealing to the potential buyer's eye. Keep it clean and keep it simple. Let the buyers see the home and not the things in the home. It should feel warm and welcoming, but also make it feel as large and open as possible.
