Houstonians will have the opportunity to vote early. Early voting starts October 23, through November 3, 2023. You had to register to vote by October 10, 2023 in order to vote in this election.

The Ballot will have 14 propositions. If you are a homeowner, you may want to read Proposition number 4 very carefully. The property tax relief proposition would:

  • Increase the homestead tax exemption from $40,000 to $100,000
  • Authorize the state legislature to limit the annual appraisal increase for non-homestead real properties. (Second homes)
  • Exclude appropriations made to increase state education funding from the state appropriations limit.

If Proposition 4 is approved, it would have a significant impact on real estate taxes in Texas. The homestead tax exemption increase would save homeowners money on their property taxes, while the limitation on appraisal increases would help to stabilize property tax bills for non-homestead property owners.

In addition to the impact on property taxes, Proposition 4 would also allow the state legislature to increase funding for education without being subject to the state appropriations limit. This could lead to increased funding for public schools and other educational programs.

Take the time to review the propositions and vote early. Click on the link below to review all the propositions carefully.
