Honoring Our Heroes: The Real Meaning of Veterans Day
Veterans Day: A Moment of Gratitude, Reflection, and ServiceWritten by Danny FrankRealtor, Coach & Mentor The Pearland Real Estate ExpertJLA Realty 713-569-8102 www.PearlandRealEstateExpert.comThe 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th MonthIt all started more than a century ago, at the end of World War I. On November 11, 1918, the guns of Europe finally fell silent. At exactly 11 a.m., an armisticea cease-firetook effect between Germany and the Allied nations. After four long, brutal years, the war to end all wars was over. The next year, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Armistice Day...From Armistice Day to Veterans DayFor about 20 years, Armistice Day honored those who fought in World War I. But history doesnt stand still. Another world war came, and then Korea. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a law changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day. The shift wasnt just about renaming a holiday, it was about widening our gratitude. Why November 11 Never ChangedIn the 1970s, Congress moved several federal holidays to Mondays. Veterans Day briefly shifted to October, but veterans across the nation pushed back. To them, November 11 wasnt just a date, it was a symbol. So, in 1978, Congress moved it back, restoring the meaning of the original Armistice Day.Veterans Day vs. Memorial DayMemorial Day honors those who gave their lives in military service. Veterans Day honors all who served, living and deceased. Its a day of gratitude, not mourning. A simple thank-you goes a long way. What It Means to Meand to Our CommunityIn real estate, we talk a lot about service. But Veterans Day puts that word in perspective. It reminds us that the highest form of service isnt measured in commissions or closingsits measured in courage, sacrifice, and commitment.Local Traditions Around Pearland and FriendswoodIn Pearland, one of the longest-running events is the Pearland Veterans Day Walk/Run at the Recreation Center & Natatorium. Theres also the Pearland Veterans Day Parade, and Friendswood hosts smaller ceremonies through local VFW posts and community centers. How We Can All ServeYou dont need a uniform to serveyou just need heart. Say thank you, fly your flag, support veteran-owned businesses, and listen to their stories. Service doesnt stop at the military gateit lives on through how we treat each other.A Realtors Perspective on Service

In real estate, people dont care how much you know until they know how much you care. Thats exactly what Veterans Day is about. Caring. Veterans understand teamwork and sacrificethe same principles that drive great agents.Pearland and Friendswood: Home to HeroesMany veterans call our area home. They settle here for the schools, sense of community, and opportunity. Theyre in Shadow Creek Ranch, Silverlake, Friendswood Trails, and West Ranchraising families and strengthening our neighborhoods.A Minute of Silenceand a Lifetime of GratitudeEvery year at 11 a.m., I pause. One minute to think about the millions whove worn the uniformfrom the trenches of France to the deserts of Iraq. One minute to remember that freedom isnt free.Bringing It Back HomeVeterans Day isnt just a day offits a reminder that our nation was built by those willing to give something up for others. Its also a chance to look in the mirror and ask, Am I serving in my own way?To Every Veteran: Thank You

To those whove served, to those still serving, and to the families whove carried the weight beside themthank you. Youve protected our freedom, shaped our communities, and set an example for us all.Written by Danny FrankRealtor, Coach & Mentor The Pearland Real Estate ExpertJLA Realty 713-569-8102 www.PearlandRealEstateExpert.com
