If 2013 was anything to go by, residential development in the Bay Area will continue its upward trajectory in 2014, according to those in the know, despite concerns over possible flood insurance rate increases. Development in the new League City master-planned communities of Westwood and Hidden Lakes is picking up, according to Tony Allender, director of planning and development for League City, while Sedona, Magnolia Creek and Tuscan Lakes communities continue to add more homes. New apartment projects like those in Tuscan Lakes, Mariposa at Pecan Park in La Porte, the League City Mariposa complex for seniors and the 400-unit multifamily project in Seabrook are expected to come on line in the next year or so. Meanwhile, Trendmaker is planning a new subdivision of 700 homes in Clear Lake City, the first new residential development for the city in several years. And Allender expects a number of other apartment and townhome proposals for League City through the year. "Times are good as far as development goes," he said. Allender expects the trend in home building to continue this year in League City, which counts 90,000 residents. He said the city issued 695 permits for single-family homes in 2012 and more than 1,000 by the end of 2013.
