Houston’s neighbor to the north, the Woodlands, is making headlines again this year as it is called the 7th best place to live in Texas.
It seems like The Woodlands is always in the news. It was the pioneer of northern expansion - just far enough from the city to enjoy peace and nature but with a livable commute. It continues to grow and expand with an emphasis on modernism and life balance, and has a wide variety of businesses and entertainment venues. It’s also considered one of the top ten best places to live in Houston. According to the platform Niche.com, the Woodlands is number 7 on the list of best places to live in Houston.
Topping the list? Greatwood, a suburban master planned community in the Sugar Land (considered #4) area southwest of Houston. Greatwood is also number 3 on the list of Best in Texas. Coming in at number 2 is Cinco Ranch, another master planned community on the out reaches of suburban Houston – this one is a little closer to Katy in the West. Numbers 3 & 5 take us closer to the city’s center; they are Memorial and University place, respectively, and numbers 6 & 8 are New Territory and Sienna Plantation master planned communities between Sugar Land and Pearland.
There doesn’t seem to be much love on the list for the Northern areas of Houston except for The Woodlands. Knowing that this is a public input platform, that is not overly surprising. The area that has the most representation will be most promoted. Cypress isn’t even available by search nor are Kingwood or Humble!
Montgomery County is listed as the 11th Best County to live in Texas. It is also listed on its own – not as a suburb, so the information doesn’t seem complete, but who better to judge an area than those who inhabit it? The city of Houston and surrounding area (which includes 8 counties!) are considered the overall 58th Best City to live in America. With a below average crime rate, an A rating for schools and family, and a below average median home cost and rent cost. On the list of Diverse Cities Houston ranks number 17.
