According to a 1980s hit movie, we were supposed to have flying cars and self adjusting clothing by now. That isn’t the case, but we have made incredible leaps in technology and convenience – most notably the recent development of grocery delivery.
Houston now has access to MANY grocery delivery or pick up services – with Amazon still working to provide that service to our area. All the major grocery chains now offer curbside or park and pick up service (this blogger has used Walmart’s) where you order online, a store employee fills the order, and you use an emailed order number to pick up your groceries (mine were place gently in the truck). Delivery is available through companies like ShipIt or Burpy. The grocery giant Randall’s also offers delivery with online only coupons and promotions. Each delivery company offers same day delivery at a nominal price and most of the services come at a discount for your first purchase. Make sure you read the fine print! You may need to pay a monthly membership fee. In most cases alcohol and tobacco are not available for delivery. Some services deliver to your door step, others to you kitchen (so you may need that extra hour to clean it up)!
Also gone are the days when food delivery meant Chinese or pizza – there are services like DoorDash that will pick up almost any food you want and bring it to you. Your midnight McDonald’s craving has just been solved. Not sure what’s good in your area or looking for something new? Try BeyondMenu or grubhub to see what’s cooking nearby.
Another plus in all this food mania? JOBS. Influx of convenience services not only means a simpler life for you and more time to do things you love (extra golf game anyone?), it also means more jobs available in our city. More people making money means more money being put into our economy and strengthening our city. It’s a WIN-WIN!
