On February 18, 2017 The Woodlands gets a much anticipated celebrity stamp – it’s own Cake Boss bakery will open in The Woodlands Mall. This is one among many new developments expected in The Woodlands this year.

The master planned community 28 miles north of Houston now spans over 43 square  miles. Originally developed as a suburb community of Houston, The Woodlands attracted the attention of several energy corporations an became it’s own Township in 2007.

The Rayford Road corridor project hopes to ease traffic congestion as the population in The Woodlands grows while also attracting new businesses and retailers. $60 million has been commissioned to widen Rayford from four lanes to six lanes from Richard Road to The Grand Parkway.  The project will provide a six-lane overpass over the Union Pacific Corp. railroad tracks. The project is expected to start before Summer 2017 and see completion in 18 months.

Over 3,000 homes will come available in this area when Harmony and Woodson’s Reserve finish building out. New developments will have extensive amenities to attract buyers despite construction on the Rayford Road project and widening of Birnham Woods Drive which may initially cause increased traffic issues while ongoing.  Developers are hoping the road improvements will help attract buyers to neighborhoods that may have been over looked in the past like Imperial Oaks, where prices are more moderate than in other areas of The Woodlands and amenities include hiking trails, swimming pools, parks, nature trails, dog park.

The list of new businesses establishments opened or soon opening due to corridor growth is staggering. Community Impact Newspaper says the residents have embraced local businesses and big box businesses. With the new residents have come medical offices, gasoline stations ad grocery stores to serve them. The community has become self serving where most residents don’t need to reach the highway for dining or shopping any longer and the future looks to bring even better opportunities for growth in residential and commercial interests to be continued in 2017.
