Confession: Halloween is my favorite day to follow up with leads who vanished into the ether. Why? Because a little humor lowers the guard and raises your reply rate.

Yes, I really send:
“I think I know your costume this year… a ghost!  Because you’re ghosting me. ”

Shockingly, I get a lot of responses. Try it. Worst case? They keep ghosting. Best case? You resurrect a deal from the dead.

Simple. Direct. Human. And yes—people respond.

Why it works

  • Pattern interrupt: It’s different from the usual “just checking in.”

  • One clear question: Easy to answer, no pressure.

How to use it

  • Send during 9a–10a or 12p–1p and at the latest 3p-4p (before trick or treating!)

  • If they say “still looking,” reply:
“Great!  What are your top 3 must-haves + budget? I’ll send three matches today.”

  • If they say “not now,” reply:
“No problem. Want me to check back in 30 or 60 days?”

  • If they don’t reply…boo hoo.  Lol!

Bottom line: real follow-up is honest and efficient. A little dry humor opens the door so the real work: strategy, data & negotiation can begin. Try it. Worst case, they keep ghosting. Best case, you revive a real conversation.

Happy Halloween!  And, let me know how many replies you receive.:)
