Have you gone to a model home and loved the feeling of relaxation, cleanliness, and simplicity? Do you know how to recreate it at home? With crazy schedules, traffic, and to-do lists, it can be hard to find the time to not only focus on yourself, but enjoy the home you are in.
Taking time to enjoy "me time" and the features of your home is important for happiness. t's also great to point out when you want to sell and move on to a new home. Here are some simple tips to create a wonderful home oasis.
1) Remove Clutter
Nothing makes a space less inviting than a room full of clutter. If you notice all the model homes have accessories strategically placed to make the home feel inviting, but not cluttered. No one is relaxed when they have to "walk on eggshells" to get to the other side of a room. So if you haven't used it recently, donate it!
2) Refresh the Paint Colors
Dark walls tend to make a room feel smaller, and less cheery. If you are looking for something with color, that also makes the space warm and comforting try some neutral colors. Light to medium greys, creams, taupes, with high contrast trim are ideal. Want to paint a wall a rich royal purple? Do it! Then paint the other walls and light grey and use white trim thorughout the room. It's a great way to have an accent wall and an open space!
3) Replace Linens
There is no simpler way to freshen up a space than to put in new towels, bedsheets or throw blankets. Replace those dark brown throw blankets with a creamy taupe blanket. you still get the darker color effect, but it's brighter too! Replace bathroom linens with white towels for that real "spa" feel!
4) Introduce Ambience
Nothing makes a house more like home than an inviting scent. The most popular fragrance is a warm vanilla. Get a simple reed diffuser, or candle and place them in the main areas of your home. Having the same scent throughout makes it feel like one large area. Want to bring in more light, and make a room feel bigger? Add some lamps and mirrors! Better yet, place a lamp on a table and place a mirrored accent piece behind it! If you are like me, music in every room just adds that perfect touch. Look into investing in a sonos sound system, using Apple Airplay, or tuning TV's to the same music channel to have that background music everywhere.
By spending a few dollars on new linens, donating items that you do not use, and updating your space to feel light and inviting, you will get to enjoy your home even more! Now you can relax on a rainy Sunday, have friends and family visit your "updated" home, and reduce a little bit of stress too.
Happy Monday y'all!
