Voting 2020!

It’s no doubt that Election Day is going to look just a little bit different this year. Some of us are voting in a way we’ve never done before, and there are definitely some unique factors playing into when we cast our ballots. We’re breaking it all down for you here, so you know where, when, and how to vote!

When:

If you plan to vote in-person, mark your calendars for Election Day on November 3^rd! Voting goes from 7 AM to 7 PM. This is far from the only day to remember, though. Here are some other dates you should definitely keep in mind:

• October 05 – The last day to register to vote
• October 13 – Early voting begins
• October 23 – The last day to apply for ballot-by-mail
• October 30 – The last day of early voting by physical appearance

In order to vote, you must:

• Be 18 years or older on Election Day
• Be a Harris County resident
• Be a U.S. Citizen
• Have not been convicted of a felony, although you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your parole, sentence, or probation

Where:

Harris County has more than 350 locations at which you can vote during Election Day and more than 100 locations you can head to to vote during the early voting period. Some are even open for 24 hours to accommodate more early votes, although this is on October 29 only. Voters now have the option to choose where they vote, and we must say, we’re pretty thrilled about that!

By Mail:

If you’re interested in voting my mail, you do have some restrictions. So far, you can only vote by mail if:

• You have a disability
• You are confined in jail but otherwise eligible to vote
• You are age 65 or older by the General Election on November 3^rd
• You will be outside of Harris County for the whole early voting period from October 13^th – October 30^th and on Election Day on November 3^rd

In order to receive a mail-in ballot, your application must be received (not just be post-marked) by October 23^rd. Due to the high number of expected mail-in votes this year, it’s better to get your application in sooner rather than later – just don’t misplace your ballot once you receive it in the mail!
