Hurricane Prep! - Robert Griffith

Hurricane Prep!

As if 2020 hasn't felt like a punch in the gut, Houston is currently watching, waiting and getting prepared for the possibility of not one, but two, hurricanes forming in the Gulf of Mexico. We may be spending the three year anniversary of Harvey by welcoming Laura or Marco (haha, hopefully not!!)

While Houston has weathered its fair share of rain events, including Harvey, Ike and the infamous Memorial Day and Tax Day floods, it's always good to be prepared. Whether it turns into a light rain and becomes a distant memory by next weekend, it's better to the items you need in place. Remember Hurricane Season lasts until November!

Stock Up On:

  • Batteries
  • Water bottles
  • Gas
  • Cash
  • Non perishable food items
  • Beer and wine - trust me, you'll want some extras!! :)
  • Charcoal or gas for your grill
  • First Aid Kit
  • Baby supplies, like diapers and wipes

Things to do:

  • Keep your cell phones, laptop and any other electronics charged
  • If possible to buy a backup battery for any necessities (like a breast pump for moms) do so now!
  • Make sure your Flood Insurance is current
  • Purchase a generator and make sure it's up and running safely before using
  • Crank your AC down in preparation for any power outages. It will help keep your home cooler should you lose power
  • Make sure to have extras of any necessary medicines for yourself, children and pets
  • Have an emergency plan
  • Don't forget your pets! Bring your pets inside when the weather starts getting bad. Should the need to flee your house arise, please remember to take all your fluffy friends along with you!

Houstonians, we're all hoping for the best and for these weather events to pass safely without incident. As a city, we do all come together in times of need. Be safe out there and we will wish for Laura and Marco to hurry along!!!
