There are plenty of places to visit and things to do within a short drive from Houston. In my third week of spring break places to visit, I’ll discuss some options in the Austin area. Austin is a short drive from Houston and offers lots of outdoor, food and wine options!!

Kid Friendly Activities
Inner Space Cavern – Join a guided tour to explore these caverns!
Jordan-Bachman Pioneer Farms – They have a petting zoo here – what else could you want?
Thinkery – This museum features a lot of exhibits focusing around arts, technology, science, engineering and math! Fun and Educational!
Patterson Park – This park is perfect for kids! It includes a volleyball and basketball court, climbing trees and skate ramp!
Texas Memorial Museum – As Austin’s first science museum, it showcases Texas natural history, including minerals, gems, fossils and much more!!
Austin Nature and Science Center – Kids are encouraged to touch and feel exhibits here. Bonus – it’s free!
Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary – Home to rescued and rehabilitating animals, it offers children a chance to interact with all kinds of cute animals!
Historic Activities
Texas State Capitol – As one of the prettiest capitols in our fair land, it’s worth a visit!! Free guided tours available!
French Legation Museum – Oldest existing home in Austin!
Haunted Austin Walking History Tour – Explore the spookier side of Austin!

Mount Bonnell – Want a hike with a view? Plan a visit here!
Lake Travis – Rent a pontoon boat and cruise around all day!
Lady Bird Johnson Lake – Spend an afternoon kayaking around this lake with a city view!
Zilker Park – Pack a picnic, walk around the Botanical Gardens, take a train ride or just kick back and enjoy the city skyline!
Barton Springs – Located in Zilker Park, you can splash around here for the day!
