Acid Spill in West U's Colonial Park

This is an emergency notification from the City of West University Place. The time is 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 14, 2011. This is Michael Ross, City Manager and Public Information Officer. A hazmat spill of muriatic acid has occurred at Colonial Park. The acid is corrosive, but it is contained and poses no threat to water or sewer.

As a precaution, residents within a one block radius around Colonial Park have been notified by emergency personnel to either evacuate or shelter in place. For now, everyone should avoid the area until the streets are reopened and the emergency personnel have left. Further updates will be available on the City's website at www.westutx.gov
