Why I eat in bed

One of the many customs I continue to practice from Italy is eating in bed. It seems so natural to me and I really enjoy it! My husband resisted at first thinking it was messy, but I have been able to convince him that this can actually work to his benefit. There are many foods that eaten in bed can boost one’s libido as well as making them feel amorous. I would not expect immediate results nor should you. However you may see immediate results in your partner's affection for you.

I am not a nutritionist; I am an intimacy/sex therapist. I know a small amount of what food consists of, but if you want to know more call a dietician. I am aware of the properties that particular food contains that may help in regards to your libido.

Let’s start out with the least messy foods that you could eat together while you are lying in bed talking with and holding your husband/wife.  Pumpkin seeds: they have a high content omega 3 which ultimately will enhance potency, drive and fertility.  Bananas: help boost male libido due to an enzyme called “bromelain”. They also increase your energy. Personally, I eat bananas because I think they are sensual looking fruits and I love the taste. You may add whip cream with them although this is very messy and someone will have to wash the sheets if any whip cream drips on them. Whip cream is very sticky when it dries and it has no sexual enhancing properties (although it is very tasty). Avocados: are useful with weight loss as well as increasing sex drive. The Aztecs called the avocado tree “ahuacatl” or “testicle tree”. The avocado increases both men’s and ladies libido. It has high levels of folic acid which helps to metabolize proteins meaning more energy. The avocado also helps regulate the thyroid gland—this is especially important for women.  If you are a vegetarian like me you know the next food I am going to talk about is very important in sexual health. Asparagus: besides making your urine smell funny it is loaded with vitamin E. Many people think vitamin E is the most important sex vitamin. Supporters of the food and sex theory say eating asparagus for three days in a row gives your libido the” most powerful affect”. It is an easy food to eat in bed. Almonds: provide the fatty acids that men need to produce enough male hormones and they are helpful in regulating sex drive. The smell of almonds is also supposed to be one of the smells that help women lubricate.  I am not  100%convinced with the research that proved this, but if you are going to the trouble of eating in bed it would be a good idea to have nice smelling cologne in the event the research with almonds is flawed. Lastly and most messy is chocolate (my personal favorite). Most women love chocolate and it helps to regulate our moods. Since we have so many hormones taking us up and down, and all around I believe it would be wise to always have chocolate on the list of bedroom foods. Chocolate makes women feel comforted and we love it so much that this feel good food usually generalizes to the person we are in bed with. It creates a win/win situation.

Before eating in bed first establish a “clean-up the mess” rule after you eat. If women always have to clean up the bed they will no longer look forward to sharing intimacy/food in bed. It is best if you can both agree to clean up the mess later. Tasting food, sharing, and intimacy go together like peas and carrots. For more information go to:
