Addressing odors in your home (get rid of smoke odors)
It may seem strange, but smokers are currently in the minority. Non-smokers can usually pick up on smoky smells within moments of entering a home. This leaves a negative impression on prospective buyers. Even vaping in a home causes chemical smells to non-smokers!
There are other things that can create odors in your home. Pets, teenagers, too many air fresheners, or just not opening up your home to fresh air often can create odors that can distract buyers when they come to tour your property.
Chances are good that you will not be able to completelyeliminate odors from your home. We do have some tips on ways to start removing smells from your home while preparing it to be listed. Start as soon as possible and the more steps you can take, the better!
Here are some tips that we have personally tried while preparing our homes:
As an added service to The Moseley Team clients, we may addodoreliminatingagents to different rooms (items such as baking soda and activatedcharcoal). It will be important for you to take additional measures while your home is listed (especially if it is vacant and may go several days without being opened up).
Once a week the home should be aired out andfreshened: Open windows and place fans around the house to help circulate the air for a few hours each week. Keep ceiling fans running often.
If the smell continues to be offensive, there are professional steps you can take to help clean the air. We have several contacts we can share with you. We typically use those as a last resort as it can get a bit pricey.
Persistence, and keeping the home smoke-free, will create a welcoming environment for prospective buyers.
