Houston Real Estate: Why Choose Space City? - Mark Martin

Houston Real Estate: Why Choose Space City?

Everyone knows not to mess with Texas when the subject is football, black gold or barbeque. But where real estate is concerned, an increasing number of residential and commercial investors are turning to the Lone Star State’s largest city: Houston.

Texas boasts its share of interesting and unique cities. Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and El Paso each feature fascinating blends of culture, commerce and opportunity. Many factors, however, have led more than two million Texans to consider Houston real estate for their homes.

Known for its long-standing ties to the aerospace and energy industries, Houston offers a variety of trendy urban areas that accommodate everyone from recent grads to baby boomers. Houston has also gained a reputation for many attractive surrounding neighborhoods.

Consider the following reasons why Houston real estate is the best choice when debating Texas locales:

Reason 1: Affordable, Quality Real Estate Options Abound.

The volume of single-family home sales in August across the Greater Houston area dropped 10.1 percent compared to August 2008, according to the Houston Association of Realtors. Houston real estate is starting to move again. Whether you’re looking for a comfortable suburban retreat or a condo close to all the action, Houston has many affordable alternatives. According to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, which recently named Houston the top U.S. city in which to live and work, $350,000 will buy a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in suburban Sugar Land. Houston was also recently ranked the ninth-most expensive American city by Forbes behind New York (No. 1), Los Angeles (No. 2) and Boston (No. 8). Houstonians get major-city benefits at a cheaper price.

Reason 2: Infrastructure Continues to Improve.

Anyone considering Houston real estate will want to guarantee that the city itself continues to thrive into the future. What better assurance could one demand than significant capital investment? Houston features two international airports, a recently constructed light rail system, 56,000 acres of park space and a relatively young football stadium.

Reason 3: Business is Booming.

According to the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, 16 companies on the Fortune 100 Fastest Growing Companies list are headquartered in the metropolitan area. Businesses include research firms, medical facilities, technology companies and manufacturing operations. Emphasis on international business is also growing each year.

Texas’s other cities major cities – Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and El Paso – each offer exciting cultural, professional and residential opportunities. But none creates an enticing blend like Houston.
