Just thought you'd like to know!
I had an opportunity to meet Mayor Reid at the Pearland Alvin Friendswood Realtor Network monthly luncheon last year when he was the guest speaker. Mayor Tom Reid has officially announced his intention to retire at the end of his term in May, 2020.
Reid moved to Pearland, Texas in 1965 to work for the Johnson Space Center after serving in the US Navy. Reid initially wanted to become involved in the community but all his good works lead him to become a member of the City Council in 1973. Reid continued to work at the Space Center during the day and the City Council commitment took up his nights and weekends.
Eventually, he was elected in 1978 as Mayor yes 1978! Reid stepped down from the position as Mayor in 1990 as his work moved him back and forth to Cape Canaveral but he was recruited to run for Mayor again in 1993. Reid has been re-elected to serve as Mayor ever since. Reid wanted to make Pearland a suburban town and he wanted big houses and nice streets as he would see on his way to work when he would drove through Friendswood and Nassau Bay. Reid continued to work on the town of Pearland to help it to grow by adding roadways, waterways, and zoning to the city.
Pearland continues to be one of this most desired areas that people inquire about and move to.
Congrats on your commitment and have an awesome retirement! I am sure there is more to come.
