Bad players in the housing industry are exploiting low income families by charging exorbitant rent but the maintenance provided is poor. "There is a huge crisis in the Houston Housing Industry", according to an executive director of the Greater Houston Fair Housing Center. Just weeks before a 19 yr old lost her life in a fire she complained to the landlord of faulty electrical wiring in a 4 rm house she shared with her aunt and uncle. More than 20,000 properties in Houston have been cited as dangerous or a public nuisance. The city was scheduled to tear down more than 400 properties on Saturday, May 22, the city's annual demolitian day. Common violation renters and Realtors listing rental homes should pay attention to are: roof conditions, walls not waterproofed or improperly attached, holes, cracks, breaks on floors, walls, ceilings, conditions that violate construction or fire codes, and unsanitary items covering the yards. Be Blessed! Be Smart! Ask questions when in doubt.
