If your homeowner's insurance has increased due to an unwelcomed visitor "Hurricane Ike" and insurance companies have premiums which range from $1,000-$4,000 a year, take a deep breath. This doesn't mean you have to lay down and die or just sign it and cry. What I did was make me a nice cup of coffee and got very comfortable and let me fingers do the walking. I called 5 insurance companies and the responses ranged from *"________company is not writing new policies", "since your home is over 10 years old, it is considered high risk", -my home is 14 years old and is considered a senior citizen in the insurance world, anywho-, "your home is too close to the coast", " we want to make sure you are 100% covered", etc.. I finally found an insurance company that is a lot cheaper and has been around for years that quoted me a price that would allow me to still go get a good shrimp dinner every now and then.
I suggest going to www.opic.state.tx.us to compare your current policy with others. You can get covered with some agencies at 90% of the replacement cost and Watch your deductibles, one company said it would be great if I had a 5% deductible. Go figure. Blog me back with your comments or your stories. Be blessed!
